Skin Source MNL Reviews: The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toner

Another cult favorite. With all the ways people talk about using The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toner, you’d think we were one step away from swimming in it.
And that’s how I use it… no, not swimming in it. I use it on my elbows, knees, and feet.
For context, I have fair skin, but my elbows and knees needed a little help keeping up. I started using this toner to address the uneven tone, and after almost two years, I can confidently say I’ve seen remarkable changes.
But this is very much a slow-burn review.

My results took patience
The Ordinary Glycolic Acid helped me a lot, but it didn’t happen overnight. Heck, for me, even a month wasn’t enough to see the changes I was hoping for.
That’s something I want to be honest about. If I’d judged it only by those first few weeks, this would have been a different review.
With continued use, the difference became noticeable. Looking back after almost two years, I’m happy with the improvement in the appearance of my elbows, knees, and feet. Consistency has mattered more in my experience than expecting quick results.
That’s my personal timeline, rather than a promise of when someone else will see a difference.
How often I use it
I use it twice to three times a week on those areas. I’ve kept the frequency moderate because I don’t want to overexfoliate in pursuit of faster results.
This is the schedule I use, rather than a starting routine everyone needs to follow. The Ordinary recommends patch testing and avoiding sensitive, peeling, or compromised skin. Its sun-sensitivity warning also advises sunscreen, protective clothing, and limiting sun exposure during use and for a week afterward. Official usage guidance.
What’s doing the exfoliating?
The main ingredient is 7% glycolic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid, or AHA. It exfoliates the skin’s surface and can help improve the appearance of uneven tone and texture. The formula also contains aloe leaf water, ginseng root extract, and a Tasmanian pepperberry derivative. Formula details.
For my review, though, the biggest takeaway is the gradual improvement I’ve personally noticed with continued use.
Body lotion deserves attention too
I also think choosing a body lotion matters. When I’m using an exfoliant, keeping my skin moisturized deserves just as much attention.
It’s easy to focus entirely on the toner when discoloration is your concern, but I wouldn’t overlook the rest of your body-care routine.
A note about the liquid’s color
I’ve noticed the liquid change color over time. The Ordinary explains that its plant-derived Tasmanian pepperberry ingredient can cause seasonal color variation in the formula. That explanation doesn’t necessarily account for changes in an opened bottle, though, so I wouldn’t use color alone to judge its condition or effectiveness. If yours changes noticeably, check with the brand before continuing to use it. The Ordinary’s color explanation.

My verdict
A slow burn, but worth it for me. After almost two years of using The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toner, I’ve seen changes in my elbows, knees, and feet that I’m happy with.
My experience has been about patience, consistent use, and keeping exfoliation moderate. This wasn’t a quick fix—and I’m glad I gave it time.
